He Knows. KEEP GOING.

This week was absolutely incredible!

Me and Sister Tapia are working so well together. It has been an absolute blast. We are just giving it all that we have and loving every single minute down here in XiaoGang.

Last P-Day we went the the Gaoxiong Dream Mall as well as the wonderful Japanese store where everything costs an American dollar, but is super amazing. We just LOVE Gaoxiong SO MUCH!

The last couple of move calls I’ve been getting up half an hour earlier with my companion for extra exercise and personal prep time. (It’s allowed- don’t worry!) I am telling you that is an extra half and hour that is life changing. Sister Tapia and I have both kind of fallen in love with exercise on our missions and it’s been fun to go together. We work hard and I’ve also been re-listening to general conference during the morning time. It is amazing how much we can be blessed by the word of God through a living prophet in our daily lives.

It gone down to 25 degrees Celsius here this week. (That is 77 degrees Farenheit). Almost time for a sweater!  I’m definitely adjusted to the weather in Taiwan haha. FALL IS HERE.

Sister Tapia and I have been working with the zone leaders a lot recently to help the Gaoxiong West Zone to feel more successful in the work and invite more people to come unto Christ. We have been focused a lot more on doing our part in INVITING, and not worrying about the results as much. We are setting goals that we can be 100% accountable for because they are completely unrelated to the result and only related to our personal effort to invite. Our zone is focusing on making sure that not a day goes by without inviting someone to come to church and inviting someone to follow the example of Jesus Christ in being baptized. It has brought a real excitement into the zone as we focus on making plans to invite and do everything within our own power, and seeing the little miracles that come as people do accept those invitations.

This week we went on exchanges with the Nanzi sisters! It was a really great experience and we learned a lot. I was able to bring Sister Rumsey back here to XiaoGang and I just loved serving with her for the day. Something broke on one of our bikes and we had to walk for about 45 minutes to get it fixed and she didn’t even pause for a second to worry or complain or anything. I learned so much from her example!

So last week, we met that lady who said she was looking for a church outside the 7 and…when we met with her this week she was AMAZING! It was actually kind of funny. We gave her a tour of the chapel and then sat with her to get to know her background a little more and she was just really nervous giggling the whole time. It was a little awkward and I was just thinking- we NEED to pray. So we taught her the basic principles of prayer and then I said a prayer and when I was done, she was completely finished giggling and said that she felt really warm. We felt the Spirit enter into the meeting so strong. We helped her to understand the Godhead and that the feeling she had was from the Holy Ghost. As we invited her to come to church and follow the example of Jesus Christ in being baptized, she didn’t hesitate. She knew what she was feeling and was willing to act!

We several wonderful investigators from the college club and they are all progressing pretty well! SO MANY MIRACLES! On Tuesday, we were set up to meet with one and there were some weird things that happened and we knew we would only have 15 minutes. We decided to just talk about church and baptism and invite her. It was a miracle. She is so willing to follow the example of the Savior and she is working towards a baptismal goal and loved church yesterday!

This week Sister Tapia and I have spent a lot of time pondering on the meaning of a successful missionary and how that relates to being accountable t. This morning in my studies, it all kind of culminated together as I read in Helaman 15:6 where it says “they are striving with unwearied dilligence that they may bring the remainder of their brethren to the knowledge of the truth; therefore there are many who do add to their numbers daily.” We are here to work with UNWEARIED DILIGENCE to bring souls unto Christ, and there will be many who choose to and many who choose not to ‘add to our numbers,’ but our accountability is only on the part of our diligence. And then in verse 13 we are taught, “that they may be brought to the true knowledge…of their Redeemer, and their great and true shepherd and be numbered among his sheep.” As I serve, the only way I can truly be accountable is through personal prayer and knowing between me and my Father in Heaven that I have served to the end of each day with unwearied diligence in bringing His children home.

Our wonderful investigator who contacted us in the Family Mart last month is also still working hard. I have never met anyone with a more innocent desire to follow Jesus Christ. She just truly loves Heavenly Father even though it’s only been a month since she came to know Him.

We saw so many miracles all week long, but the experience that stood out to me the most was actually what happened after dropping an investigator Wu Jiemei. Right from when I contacted this sister about a month ago, I have been so excited to help her receive the gospel and been praying for it every day just like with all of the incredible people that we meet here. But when it came to keeping commitments and willingness to learn, we just had to make a decision and she did as well. She let us know that right now isn’t her time. We had a very good last meet and she said that the next time missionaries come knocking, she’ll be willing to let them in and listen. As we left, I felt like we had done exactly what Heavenly Father wanted us to do, but I also felt the sadness for her not accepting the goodness of the gospel. As we got on our bikes and went to the next light, I found it a little harder to contact at the next red light. I prayed in my heart to Heavenly Father and just let him know that I was sad. I felt a very clear impression come to my mind- ‘I know. KEEP GOING.’ And I did. At the very next light, I invited someone to learn more about Jesus Christ, just like we do at every light and she accepted. We kept contacting everyone we could and doing everything within our power to invite others to come unto Christ. Heavenly Father knows and loves all of His children and it is wonderful to do His work right along with Him.  JUST KEEP GOING.

LOVE YOU ALL!

P.S. Our Mission President sent us this in his email to us. I love Gaoxiong and love the people here. It is amazing to be a part of building stakes in Zion!

Recently Elder Geritt W. Gong, our Asia Area President, asked if we, as individual missionaries, and collectively, as a mission would specifically pray “for the establishing of righteous families and priesthood brethren in Jiayi and Gaoxiong in the coming months.” An application has been submitted for a new stake to be created in Gaoxiong by early next year. We are also working diligently toward helping the Jiayi District become a stake by June of next year. There is much that remains to be done in both areas to prepare for these great events. If you are serving in either of these areas please prayerfully consider what adjustments you might make to your goals and plans in order to help with these efforts. Elder Gong and I would also like to invite you all, as a mission, to fast together this Sunday in behalf of the Gaoxiong and Jiayi areas to help us further the establishment of these two new stakes of Zion. I know that the collective faith and sacrifice of this mission can hasten the work of salvation!

I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY. SO MUCH. It’s true. It is the greatest

This week was really great. Sister Tapia and I work really well together and it has gone really well this week.

It has been really cool to go from being a Sister Training Leader on my own to working as a Sister Training Leader companionship. We have felt very guided by the Spirit together in working to help our investigators here as well as the sisters in our zone.

The greatest thing Sister Tapia has taught me thus far: When you are lost ask Pizza Hut. Why it has never occurred to me before, I will never know, but it works wonders. Of course they know every road- they deliver every where! Ha- best.

There is a club at the college here that is literally a club of people who are not members of the church that invite the missionaries to hold a YSA family home evening with them every week. I’m still not sure how that started, but it has become a serious miracle pool. Several of the club members have decided to start investigating the church and it is just a wonderful atmosphere. The president of the club has started really progressing in the gospel and we love her so much!

Yesterday, I felt prompted to talk to someone on the 7 at the corner and she was just so excited and said that she’s been looking for a church and really wants to learn more! It was just amazing. You never know who is prepared and who is looking.

On Friday, we met with a woman who lives in our building who had come to English class with her kids once. As we began the lesson, she made it clear that her family is Buddhist and that she wouldn’t really be able to have the gospel of Jesus Christ. But we began to use the principles from How to Begin Teaching and started asking some bolder questions to see where her personal interest is- regardless of her family. The Spirit came in large measure and by the end of the lesson, she had expressed her desire to learn about Jesus Christ and said that we can all start praying hard together so that her family will be willing to allow her to continue. It was a testimony to me that everyone is a child of God and once they get even a small taste of that joy, they will have a desire to continue to have that feeling.

This week as I finished the book of Alma, I was impressed by Helaman in Alma 62:44-45. This was his first chance to rest or more freely choose what he wanted to do after the wars. He choose “again to preach unto the people the word of God…with much power…which did cause them to repent of their sins and to be baptized unto the Lord their God.” His choice was absolutely inspiring to me. Every day as I serve and feel the power of the gospel more in my own life and in the lives of those around me, I am more and more excited to spread the word of God- no matter what the result.

LOVE YOU ALL! HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK.

The start of a new MOVE CALL

2015 10-11 (3) Wow I love being a missionary!   There is so much joy in the work of our Father in Heaven.

We’re starting off a new move call here. Sister Chiang is moving after just one move call here and my new companion is Sister Tapia! I am really grateful for all of the things that I learned while serving with Sister Chiang. She is an incredible sister and we saw a lot of miracles together. I am really excited to start working with Sister Tapia. We are going to be sister training leaders together which is really exciting! Our mission hasn’t had enough sisters to have sister training leaders serve together for the last several move calls, but now we are really excited to get working together. It’s going to be another wonderful move call here in XiaoGang!

Last week was really wonderful!

We got to watch conference! I LOVE CONFERENCE. There is so much that we can improve every day. I felt like a major theme of this conference was deeper personal conversion. I know that as we come closer to Christ personally every day our lives change. There is nothing more wonderful than the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We had some wonderful miracles with our investigator who we met last week at the Family Mart. She was absolutely incredible. We have met with her almost every day this week and she came to three of the four sessions of General Conference. I was a little nervous that conference would be a little too much for such a new investigator, but Heavenly Father has a plan. She was able to come unto Christ and learn a whole lot. I realized how new she was when she asked me at the end of the first session what the Holy Ghost is, and gained an even greater testimony of the power of the words of the prophets. We taught her the plan of salvation in between sessions of conference yesterday and read in Alma when Ammon teaches King Lamoni about the plan of salvation and King Lamoni says that he is willing to give up anything for those blessings. She said that she would be too! How true it is that the knowledge of the plan of salvation will change anyone’s life forever.

We had an awesome English party last week!

We had a super great stake activity at ChengQing lake last week! IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

I wish I had time to tell you all of the little miracles that happened last week, but in the end, Heavenly Father places His children right where they need to be, right when they need to be there.

LOVE YOU ALL.

The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas

HELLO EVERYONE!

I am making up for the recent short emails lately right now! The last couple of weeks we have been getting in an extra facebook lesson during email, but today we don’t have any. SO I can tell you all of the cool things that have been happening lately.

*AN EMAIL: A couple of weeks ago I received an email from someone that I taught in Tainan who accepted the gospel and  was baptized. She was wishing me happy birthday, but she also told me of the joy that has been in her life since accepting the gospel. She received her patriarchal blessing, is doing family history work and going to the Taipei temple in a few weeks to do baptisms for her ancestors for the first time.It was amazing to hear from her and see the complete contrast that the gospel can make in one’s life. I love being a missionary and sharing the gospel with the people in Taiwan!

*8:45 ON A SUNDAY: That’s right the last 15 minutes of the week. Last night we were making some phone calls at the Family Mart to set up some things for the upcoming week when someone came up to us and asked where our church was. She was super excited to talk to us and actually said she had seen us before and had always just been to scared to talk to us. We sat down with her right then at the Family Mart and started teaching her about the Book of Mormon. She set up to meet with us three more times this week and come to church on Sunday. She’s been looking for a church for so long and she really felt the Spirit. There really are those who are just waiting to hear the message of the restored gospel in our path everyday.

*MLC: Last Thursday 10/1 we were able to attend Mission Leadership Conference. We learned so much and my testimony was really strengthened- especially of the scriptures. I am so grateful for the word of God in my life. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and anyone who reads it with real intent can know that.

*MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL: A couple weeks ago was ZhongQiuJie which means moon cakes and barbecues! Taiwanese barbecues are the best. At an American barbecue you make a bunch of food and then you sit down and eat it. In Taiwan, you cook and eat and cook and eat and cook and eat and cook and eat until all of the meat is gone. Ha. It’s hilarious.

*EXCHANGES: The last couple of weeks I have been on exchanges with Sister Hughes, Sister Findlay, and Sister Eo. I have learned so much from all of them. Every exchange brings so many miracles. Sister Hughes taught me how to take anything with a laugh. Sister Findlay taught me how to follow the Spirit always. Sister Eo taught me how to work through the hard times (and some Korean!).

2015 10-4 (1)

Happy Pomelo Season!

*A THOUGHT: A few weeks ago on an exchange a sister asked me why I’m so happy. I thought about it and realized that one of the greatest things I have learned to master on my mission is the ‘accept it or change it’ skill. There are so many wonderful things in our lives- especially as missionaries, but when those things come that you don’t like- about a place or yourself or a situation or anything really- you have a choice. You can accept it and be happy. Or you can do what is in your power to change it. There is so much that can be changed and so much good that can be seen when we accept the things that can’t be. Just do everything you can. That’s all that Heavenly Father asks of His children. His plan really is for our eternal happiness.

*3 Nephi 7:17-18: As we align our will with our Father in Heaven’s and have unshakable faith in Christ, we can work miracles as missionaries. I love the Book of Mormon!

LOVE YOU ALL!

Have a great week!

Mid-Autumn Festival! (The second one in Taiwan!)

THE LAST COUPLE WEEKS HAVE BEEN SO GREAT! We’ve been working super hard to get some more things rolling down in XiaoGang and we’ve seen a ton of little miracles!

Sorry I don’t have a ton of time to write so this will be kind of a spazzy email.

*Last week was Gaoxiong West Stake Conference. It was really great and all about the attributes of Christ. I loved what President Yang shared about looking at everyone in the way that they could become, and in the way that our Father in Heaven sees them instead of the way the world sees them.

*I have been reading the Book of Mormon in Chinese characters! It’s super hard, but I have felt the Spirit so much! I’m almost done with 1 Nephi. The Book of Mormon has about 3000 characters, 1000 of which are only used once. But, in any language, I know that this book is the word of God.

*Our last 2 p-days we have gone to the QiJin island and the Dragon and Tiger pagodas! SO COOL.

*This week while on exchanges with Sister Findlay, we were riding down the road contacting and felt like we needed to pull into a Family Mart and talk to someone sitting there, so we did. We started to talk to her about the meaning of life and then opened up to Alma 40 and started talking about life after death. She immediately recognized the truth in Alma’s words and wanted to know so much about the Book of Mormon. She was so grateful to receive a copy and said that it was clearly true word from God. We are actually meeting with her right now on facebook to talk some more about it. I am so glad what the Book of Mormon has done to change my life and what it can do for others as well.

*We went on exchanges with Gangshan and Nanzi the last couple of weeks. I have learned so much from these sisters! LOVE them!

LOVE YOU ALL!

Sorry for another short one 🙂

HELLO!

Sorry- I ran out of time today.

But here’s a thought from Gaoxiong West Stake Conference- Look at everyone for the value that Heavenly Father sees in them. We are all children of our Father in Heaven and He loves us.

I love being a missionary! Thanks for everything you all do for me 🙂

A duck heart instead of a birthday cake!

2015 9-13 (12)

Duck heads, feet & hearts. (Not sure what the rest of that is!)

2015 9-13 (13)

Eating a duck heart for birthday!

WHAT A WEEK!

*SEPTEMBER 7TH: Basically the best birthday ever! Nothing like a birthday P-day! There were 4 wonderful birthday prizes:

1-When we came to email for P-Day, the nice worker at the internet cafe told us he could help   us get our email time cheaper- yay! In the end we realized that cheaper was actually 4 hours instead of two, but we were obedient- and we stood up to go at two hours because that’s our rule. The worker was impressed by our obedience when he gave us free things and gave us…10 free two- hour sessions! So right now is free. Blessings of obedience!

2- We went to the Love River for P-Day. Ha, it sounds weird I know, but it was really pretty and we had a really good time. My companion convinced me to eat a duck heart- so that was my birthday cake! I might as well go on Fear Factor now, there is nothing that I’m scared of haha. It was actually pretty good.

3-We had the coolest miracle EVER. At 7:00 we had planned to tract on a road I hadn’t been to since my first day in XiaoGang. When I came my first day, we were looking for an investigator that was a referral from Salt Lake City who the sisters hadn’t been able to contact. When we went looking for her, we realized we didn’t have the last part of the address and rang every possible doorbell. Fast forward to 9/7, we went to tract there and had a lot of very specific promptings of the Spirit. In the end we rang all of those same doorbells. Suddenly a lady walked up and my companion just asked if she was the person we were looking for- SHE WAS. She is an incredible lady who loved the experience she had at temple square and knows the Spirit. She is now our investigator again and we’re not losing her this time.

4-We met with a wonderful lady that we contacted last week who was SUPER AMAZING. When we prayed she just thought it was so cool that we could speak with our Father in Heaven. Amazing miracles.

*MISSION LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE:

On Tuesday we got to go up to Taizhong to MLC. It was really amazing to see some of my wonderful friends and counsel together in ways to help improve ourselves and the mission. I am so glad to be a Taiwan Taizhong missionary. It is the greatest.

*BECOMING A FACEBOOK MISSIONARY:

Yep. It’s happening. But, it is all according to Heavenly Father’s timing. We have an investigator who is going to be in school in Taizhong Monday through Friday now and we can keep meeting with her!

*NEW INVESTIGATORS:

We met with two more of the amazing people we contacted last week in all of our getting stood up miracles and they were both so amazing and in need of the gospel! Miracles come through diligence and faith!

*EXCHANGES IN ZUOYING:

We exchanged with the Zuoying sisters this week. They are a training companionship and I learned SO much from them. Sister Lin was an incredible example of humility to me!

*ZONE TRAINING MEETING AND SISTERS MEETING:

It was the first time having ZTM and a Sister’s meeting since I have become a sister training leader. I got to do some training on follow up calls and conduct a sisters meeting for the first time. I felt very guided by the Spirit in leading all of it. I am so glad for the opportunities Heavenly Father gives me every day to serve! It was amazing to be unified as the Gaoxiong West Zone.

LOVE YOU ALL!
